Sweet Sadie began whelping last night. Shortly after the sun had risen this morning, Sadie was nursing her 6 beautiful perfect puppies. She was a tired girl, but so obviously smitten and proud of her 3 little girls and boys.  She’d take her nose to nudge them back closer when they’d squirm away from her warmth.  Sadie would give a happy lift of her tail as she licked them until they were shiny from love and slobbers.  Lucky little puppies!  

Before time to rest from the long, sleepless night, Gracie decided it was the ideal time to welcome her puppies into the world. She whelped easily.  By early evening she was the proud momma of 8 little babies, 4 girls and 4 boys.  She is an attentive momma, any time a puppy whimpers or whines she begins soothing them gently. By chance if it does not calm immediately, she makes these little yelps until we go check out her unhappy puppy–a puppy that is usually fast asleep by the time we look in the whelping pen.  

Watching Sadie and Gracie sleeping soundly with their new puppies nearby, it is my prayer that when these puppies leave us in 9 weeks they will bring loads of happiness to their forever family in the same way that Sadie and Gracie bring us constant joy.
